Overview

As UX lead for food queries on Google Search and Maps, I’m tasked with shaping the way billions of people find something to eat globally. Leveraging my extensive background in user-centered design and creative problem solving, I’ve enhanced Google’s hyper-verticalized experiences by shaping data-driven, seamless and delightful journeys at scale. What’s this place known for?

It’s hard to understand what a place is really like on Google today. “What’s good here?” “What’s the feel?” Google has collections of data points (hours, location, menus) and enormous pools of user reviews, but nothing that gives users an at-a-glance idea of the vibe. That's where place insights come in. We synthesized the enormous pools of review data using AI to produce snack-able insights. Place insights are the in-the-know foodie pal who tells you exactly what you need to know about a place, whether you’re exploring, deciding, or getting ready to go. Read the Keyword

Dish reactions

With a need to capture more nuanced data sets on dish entities, we created a delightful feedback loop system allowing users to rate dishes and train Food algos. *chef’s kiss*

Maps AR Food View

To solve the hunt and peck problem in new restaurant discovery, we created a helpful and novel solution—a super human glimpse into a restaurant’s interior, menu offerings and overall dining experience. While using Maps AR Live View, users can hover over a restaurant to get a sense of the interior, menu offering and overall vibe. Press coverage

Vegetarian near me

Once you've found the perfect restaurant for you, you want to make sure that it offers something for everyone in your party. By introducing new and improved user generated content pipelines, we were able to have a more nuanced understanding of restaurant menus and dishes. The number one pain point we heard from users trying to make a decision on a restaurant was a lack of vegetarian and vegan data on menus. We made this the top priority for both user contribution and consumption. Read the Keyword

Place Insights

Recognizing Search Place Sheet needed a facelift, we synthesized Search’s review data to highlight a place’s unique aspects presenting them in a conversational way. In addition to the helpful content updates, we gave the UI a refresh by using dynamic color to help better represent the restaurant's brand on Google surfaces.
